Mental Health and Wellbeing Rural Support Guide and Toolkit
In 2020-21, Professor Nick Goodwin from the CCRI and Professor Rhonda Wilson from the University of Newcastle School of Nursing and Midwifery supported work funded by the Mental Health Commission of NSW and led by the Human Capital Alliance to support a participatory action project with rural communities. Using a community focused model, the work sought to understand how a place-based approach could bring together all the assets of a local community to better support people with mental health issues.
The Mental Health Commission subsequently published two support tools: a Workforce Support Guide for Rural Communities, and The Rural Mental Health Workforce Toolkit containing resources to support the use of the Guide. The Mental Health Commission is now funding the piloting and evaluation of the guide and toolkit in Western NSW as a means to help rural communities articulate their mental health needs and uncover available workforce and community assets.
